Recognition of prior learning
Advanced Standing is a way we recognise the studies you've already completed. Instead of repeating subjects, you get credit for them, saving you time and money.
Wondering if you qualify? If you've completed studies, including single subjects at any university (even here at Notre Dame), you might be eligible for this credit.
Understanding Advanced Standing
Here are some quick things to note if you’re considering applying for Advanced Standing:
- Being eligible for advanced standing doesn't guarantee entry into a particular program.
- Your first Advanced Standing application is free. Any further applications come with a $125 fee.
Further information on Advanced Standing and credit transfer is available in our Procedure: Credit.

Credit Pathways Register
Please check the Register below to see if your previous qualification is listed against programs eligible for a Credit Pathway at Notre Dame.
Individual assessment of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available upon application for all prior studies not listed in the Register.
