Why do we use Office365
Office365 is a mature product that offers better security, enhanced productivity features and performance. Office365 provides better office performance, new features and functions that are tested and approved to work with the current line of business applications used by our University.
Office 365 is accessible to staff and students using their University account through the Office online portal. Office can be installed onto a staff or student personal computer as a local install or accessible as an online version through the Office portal.
Office 365 allows access to over 30 online apps to assist with teaching, business, learning and research needs of students and staff.

What are the minimum requirements for Office?
- Windows OS: 1.6 GHz or faster, 2-core. 2 GHz or higher recommended for Skype for Business
- macOS: Intel processor
- Windows OS: 4 GB RAM; 2 GB RAM (32-bit)
- macOS: 4 GB RAM
- Windows OS: 4 GB of available disk space
- macOS: 10 GB of available disk space
- Updates may require additional storage over time.
- Windows OS: Windows 10 and 8.1
- macOS: One of the three most recent versions of macOS. When a new version of macOS is released, the macOS requirement becomes one of the then-current three most recent versions: the new version of macOS and the previous two versions
- The current version of Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Safari, or Chrome. Most Office 365 apps also work with the latest version of Firefox; however, Firefox does not support all Microsoft Teams meeting features.
- Windows OS: Some features may require .NET 3.5 or 4.6 and higher also to be installed. Microsoft Teams requires 4.6 or higher.

Can I use Teams instead of Zoom?
Both Teams and Zoom are available to staff for teaching and research purposes to collaborate with other staff. Staff are able to use either as a preferred method for communication.
It is recommended to use Teams for small collaboration and video meetings and use Zoom for meetings with a large number of attendees.

What happens if I leave the University
Notre Dame staff have access to staff email and the Microsoft Office 365 suite for the duration of employment. Access is removed effective from the termination date.
It is not possible to have interim access or access beyond the term of employment.

I would like to store all my documents on OneDrive?
OneDrive is useful for saving initial document drafts, and files online when access to University shared drives (M:\, N:\ or H:\) is unavailable.
